Fandeliers: The Chandelier That Moves the Air
Most rooms ask you to choose between a ceiling fan and a light fixture worth looking at. A fandelier gives you both on one junction box, with the blades tucked inside the frame, behind the glass, or under the crystal, so the room reads as lit rather than ventilated.
Crystal & Luxury Fandeliers
These are chandeliers first. The fan is there, but it keeps out of sight so the facets, folds, and glass can do the talking.
- Stockholm Fan D'Lier by Savoy House: Art Deco folds in Gold Patina or Silver Patina wrapped around a barely visible three-blade fan, 31" wide and 13" tall. Six 2700K candelabra LED lamps are included, the light is dimmable, and a handheld control runs both functions. Dry rated. Mood: Gatsby, with a breeze.
- Solitaire Fandelier by Maxim Lighting: Beveled crystal jewels hang beneath gracefully curved arms, each one lit from within by its own LED candelabra lamp. A 22" three-blade span, six 3000K lamps at 90+ CRI included, handheld control, Title 20 compliant, and damp rated. Mood: A hotel suite after midnight.
- Etesian Fan D'Lier by Savoy House: Romantic U-shaped arms carry eight clear glass cylinders over softly filtered inner shades, in Burnished Russet or Satin Nickel. Ships with 4" and 18" downrods for standard or tall ceilings, dimmable, with a handheld remote. Dry rated. Mood: Gallery glamour, softly backlit.
Modern & Minimalist Fandeliers
Clean rings, opal glass, and compact blades. These read as contemporary light fixtures that happen to circulate air, and three of the four are damp rated for covered outdoor rooms.
- Gleam Indoor / Outdoor LED Ceiling Fan by Fanimation: Four slim blades orbit an opal frosted glass light delivering 2200 lumens at 3000K and 90 CRI, in Black or Brushed Nickel. Three-speed reversible motor, remote with sleep timer included, compatible with Fanimation fanSync Bluetooth controls, sloped ceiling adaptable, damp rated, and backed by a limited lifetime warranty. Mood: A moon that moves air.
- Veloce Outdoor LED Flush Mount Ceiling Fan by Modern Forms: A swirl of integrated LED light behind three compact blades on a 28" span, mounted tight to the ceiling in Aged Brass, Black, or Titanium Silver. 1596 lumens at 90 CRI with color temperature options from 2700K to 5000K, dimmable, wall and handheld control included, Title 24 and Title 20 compliant, damp rated, with a lifetime motor warranty. Mood: Low ceiling, no compromises.
- Jewel LED Ceiling Fan by Maxim Lighting: A glowing LED ring in black and gold, set with crystal accents, floats around a compact three-blade fan with a 22" span. 2220 lumens at 90 CRI in the 2700K to 4000K range, handheld control, and damp rated. Mood: A halo with a little sparkle.
Caged & Industrial Fandeliers
Open frames, visible bulbs, and honest hardware. These suit lofts, modern farmhouse kitchens, and any room where a chandelier would feel too dressed up.
- Finnigan Fandelier by Hinkley: A steel cage around four candelabra LED lamps, with three blades tucked underneath, in 24" or 30" diameters. The included HIRO control works on the wall or in your hand, and the fixture is Wi-Fi compatible with the Hinkley Home Automation app. 2700K at 90 CRI, sloped ceiling adaptable, dry rated, with a lifetime motor warranty. Mood: Factory loft, edited for a reading nook.
- Wetherby LED Fan D'Lier by Savoy House: A slender early-20th-century cage around three interior blades, in Classic Bronze, Satin Nickel, or Warm Brass, 26" wide with an adjustable overall height of 16.5" to 30.5". An integrated 3000K LED module is included, the light is dimmable, and a handheld remote runs both functions. Damp rated, with a limited lifetime warranty on the motor. Mood: Warehouse bones, porch-ready.
- Lyon Fan D'Lier by Savoy House: A slender drum frame with fine metal detailing in Matte Black or Warm Brass, lit by eight 2700K candelabra LED lamps that are included. Dimmable, handheld remote, and 4" and 18" downrods in the box. Dry rated. Mood: A birdcage with a breeze inside.
Fandelier Sizing and Placement Guide
A fandelier has smaller blades than a standard ceiling fan, so it circulates air gently rather than cooling a room aggressively. Size it to the room, and mount it high enough that the blades stay safely overhead.
|
Room |
Fixture diameter |
Mounting |
|
Bedroom or home office |
20" to 24" |
Short downrod on an 8' to 9' ceiling |
|
Dining room |
About half the table width |
Centered over the table, blades at least 7' from the floor |
|
Living room or open plan |
24" to 31" |
Centered in the seating area; add a second fan in large rooms |
|
Low ceiling, under 8' |
Up to 28" |
Flush mount only |
|
Covered patio or porch |
16" to 28" |
Damp rated fixtures only, protected from direct rain |
Downrod rule: On ceilings above 9', add roughly 6" of downrod for each additional foot of height. A 10' ceiling typically takes a 12" downrod, and a 12' ceiling takes about 24". This keeps the fixture in proportion with the room and the airflow within reach.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a fandelier cool a room as well as a standard ceiling fan?
Not quite. The blades are shorter and often shielded by the frame or glass, so a fandelier moves air gently rather than creating a strong breeze. It works best in bedrooms, dining rooms, and smaller living spaces. In a large great room, pair it with a standard fan elsewhere in the space.
Can I hang a fandelier over a dining table like a chandelier?
Yes, but it will hang higher. A chandelier often sits 30" to 34" above a tabletop, while fan blades need at least 7' of clearance from the floor. Choose a short downrod on standard ceilings, and let the fixture's size, not its drop, set the scale over the table.
How are fandeliers controlled?
Every fixture here includes a remote, wall control, or both, so you don't need a pull chain. For smart home control, Finnigan works with the Hinkley Home Automation app over Wi-Fi, and Gleam is compatible with Fanimation fanSync Bluetooth controls, sold separately.
