Diameter Guide

Two rules do most of the work. For a room, add the length and width in feet and use that number as the fixture diameter in inches. For a dining table, aim for roughly half to two thirds the table width, never coming closer than 6" to either edge.

Hanging height: 30" to 36" above a dining table with an 8-foot ceiling, adding roughly 3" for every additional foot of ceiling. In an entry, keep the lowest point at least 7 feet off the floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a single ring light the whole dining room?

It will light the table beautifully and the corners not at all. Rings throw light down and outward from the perimeter, which flatters faces and food but leaves the room's edges dark. Pair one with recessed cans on a separate dimmer, or accept the intimacy.

Round table, round fixture: is that too matchy?

No, and the geometry actually helps. Over a round table, a ring roughly half the table's diameter reads as intentional rather than repetitive. Over a rectangle, consider the Ovale, whose stretched oval follows the table's proportion.

Why do the color temperatures vary so much here?

Fixed 3000K is the safe default for dining and living spaces. Selectable and tunable options, like the Aro and the Groove, let you commit later or shift the room from warm evening light to cooler daytime working light. If a project has other 2700K fixtures already installed, match to those rather than defaulting.
