Multi-Tier Chandeliers: Light on More Than One Level
A tiered chandelier builds its light in layers, so it fills vertical space in a way a single ring of arms can't. That makes it a natural fit for tall foyers, stairwells, and dining rooms with height to spare. The designs below cover three approaches: modern pieces that use LED and minimal frames, statement fixtures in glass, crystal, and handcrafted texture, and rustic designs built on rings, branches, and forged metal.
Modern and Minimalist Designs
These fixtures trade traditional arms and candles for integrated LED, fine wire, and clean geometry. They still have presence, but they keep the ceiling looking uncluttered.
- Flock of Light LED Chandelier by Moooi: Designed by Studio Toer in 2020 and made in the Netherlands, Flock of Light suspends tiny LEDs from a cluster of fine brass wires so they glimmer like stars at different heights. It comes in 11-, 21-, or 31-light versions from 31.5" to 70.9" wide, with cable lengths of 157.5" or 393.7" for very tall spaces. Warm 2500K to 2700K light at 90+ CRI, with DALI, push, or smart dimming. Mood: A night sky held on a few thin wires.
- Cadoux LED Chandelier by Eurofase: Integrated LED strips trace the edges of an open metal frame, turning a simple outline into the light source. It comes in a 20" Small (Coffee Gold or Matte Black) or a 30" Large (Matte Black), each only 7" tall, at 3000K and 90 CRI. Dimmable and Title 24 compliant. Mood: A line drawing that lights up.
- Tachi LED Chandelier by Kuzco Lighting: A horizontal blade of light in steel and acrylic, 42" wide and 6.38" tall, designed in 2024 for long tables and open rooms. Urban Bronze or Vintage Brass, at 3000K and 90 CRI. Dims to 10% on TRIAC, ELV, or 0-10V, with a five-year warranty. Mood: One confident stroke of light over the table.
Grand Crystal and Traditional Styles
These fixtures lean on material and craft: recycled glass, carved wood, and crystal, each catching and scattering light differently.
- Sommelier Chandelier by Currey and Company: Strips of recycled bottle glass layer around stacked metal rings, scattering color when the lamps are on. Green or White, 27" across and 26" tall, adjustable from 31" to 100". Takes eight candelabra bulbs (not included) and is dimmable. Mood: A wine cellar, turned into a chandelier.
- Indra Chandelier by Hinkley: Tiered curtains of pale wooden beads hang around nine candelabra lamps, softening the light through layer after layer. 38" across and 21.5" tall, adjustable to 54.25", in steel and wood. Dimmable, with E12 lamps not included. Mood: A handmade necklace for the ceiling.
- Shorecrest Tiered Chandelier by Allegri: A tall branching iron frame with candle-style lamps at its ribbed center and smoky crystal drops falling from the outer arms. It comes in 6-, 8-, or 9-light versions from 31" to 34" wide, starting at 86" tall, and is dimmable. Takes candelabra bulbs (not included). Mood: Old-world drama for a double-height foyer.
Farmhouse and Rustic Wagon Wheels
Forged metal, open rings, and organic shapes bring warmth to farmhouse, lodge, and transitional rooms. These fixtures look as good switched off as they do lit.
- Noble Chandelier by Maxim Lighting: Broad black rings hold aged brass sockets and hang from forged chain. The 14-light version is 50" across and 33.5" tall; the 30-light version keeps the 50" width but stretches to 66" tall, adjustable to 144.2" for grand spaces. Takes E26 bulbs, with an option to include warm 2200K LED lamps. Dimmable. Mood: A wagon wheel, dressed for dinner.
- Caribou Chandelier by Hubbardton Forge: Sweeping antler-like steel arms hold candle bulbs at their tips and cast crisp, shifting shadows. The 5-light version is 40.6" wide and the 9-light is 49.1" wide, in 11 finishes from Natural Iron to Soft Gold. Handcrafted in the United States, damp rated, with a lifetime limited warranty. Takes candelabra bulbs (not included). Mood: Mountain lodge, refined.
- Hans LED Chandelier by Arteriors: Matte swirl glass globes mounted across two suspended iron tiers, 44" wide and 9" tall, adjustable from 14" to 44". Twelve integrated LEDs at a warm 2700K and 90+ CRI, 0-10V dimmable, and damp rated. Mood: Pearls strung on two rings.
Sizing a Tiered Chandelier
Tiered fixtures carry more visual weight than single-tier designs, so size and height matter even more. Use these common guidelines as a starting point.
|
Space |
Width guideline |
Hanging height |
|
Dining room |
Half to two-thirds the width of the table |
30" to 34" above the tabletop |
|
Long table or open room |
About two-thirds the length of the table |
30" to 34" above the tabletop |
|
Entry or foyer |
Room length plus width in feet equals diameter in inches |
At least 7' above the floor |
|
Two-story foyer or stairwell |
Scale up; tall fixtures fill vertical space |
Bottom tier at or above the second-floor line |
The height rule: A chandelier's height should be roughly 2.5" to 3" for every foot of ceiling height. A 10' ceiling suits a fixture about 25" to 30" tall.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do these chandeliers come with bulbs?
Flock of Light, Cadoux, Tachi, and Hans have integrated LEDs. Noble is available with LED bulbs included. Sommelier, Indra, Shorecrest, and Caribou take candelabra bulbs that are sold separately.
Can a tiered chandelier go in a bathroom or covered porch?
Only if it is damp rated. On this page, Caribou and Hans carry a damp rating. Confirm the rating before installing any fixture near moisture.
Do larger tiered chandeliers need extra ceiling support?
Often, yes. Hans weighs over 45 pounds and Indra over 40, so confirm that your junction box and ceiling framing are rated for the weight. Flock of Light is the exception, weighing just a few pounds even in its largest version.
