Wet or Damp, and Where the Cord Goes
Wet rated: Built to take direct rain, sprinklers, and hose spray. This is the rating for an open patio, a lawn, or anywhere the lamp will not be under a roof.
Damp rated: Handles humidity and condensation but not direct water. Keep it under a covered porch, a deep overhang, or a pergola with a solid roof. IP ratings add detail: IP44 resists splashes, while IP65 and higher resist jets of water and dust.
Plan the outlet first: A plug-in lamp needs an outdoor outlet with GFCI protection and a weatherproof in-use cover that stays closed with the cord plugged in. Measure from the outlet to where the lamp will stand before you buy; the Jaima, for example, ships with a cord up to 110.4" long.
Route cords safely: If an extension is unavoidable, use one rated for outdoor use, run it along edges rather than across walkways, and never pass it through a closed door or window or under a rug. When there is no outlet nearby, a rechargeable lamp is the simpler answer, or have a licensed electrician add one. Always check the product specifications to confirm the fixture's rating before installing it in a moisture-prone location.

Can outdoor floor lamps stay out all year?
Wet-rated lamps are designed to, but fabric shades and finishes last longer if you rinse off salt and grime a few times a season and bring textiles in during long rainy stretches. Rechargeable lamps should be stored and charged per the manufacturer's instructions.
How bright should an outdoor floor lamp be?
Less than you think. Around 400 to 900 lumens at 2700K is plenty beside a sofa or over a table after dark, and warm light keeps the space relaxed. Dimmable or multi-level lamps let you turn it down once eyes adjust.
